With Supercommittee’s Deadline Closing In… Powerful TV Ad Airs
The Message: Washington’s Spending Addiction Is Like A Drug Addiction
Since Ads Original Airing, National Debt Grew From $14.3 T To Nearly $15 T
Arlington, VA – With less than two weeks for the supercommittee to identify between $1.2 and $1.5 trillion in spending cuts, beginning Sunday, November 13th, Public Notice Research & Educational Fund (PNREF) airs, for the third time, its powerful, national television ad titled “Washington Could Learn A Lot From A Drug Addict,” which parallels a junkie’s addition with Washington’s spending addiction.
With over one million views on YouTube, this compelling 30-second TV ad launched “Washington Could Learn A Lot” (www.washingtoncouldlearnalot.com) earlier this year, an educational and interactive website that highlights clever and thought-provoking “best practices,” so Washington’s leaders can learn to better manage the country’s frail economy. Unfortunately, our economy is in deep trouble and Washington politicians need to get the message that business-as-usual is over now more than ever.
Gretchen Hamel, President of Public Notice Research & Education Fund, said:
“We are just days away from a deadline that was supposed to be the beginning of the end of America’s fiscal crisis. The supercommittee was supposed to find more than $1.2 trillion. Unfortunately, what we are seeing in Washington seems to be more of the same gridlock and an unwillingness to face up to the real crisis – Washington spending is out of control.
“If the supercommittee can chart a path to real and sustainable spending reductions, we just might find our way back on the road to recovery. Now is the time to demonstrate courage to the American people and give us the confidence that our representatives in Washington are serious about their commitment to fiscal responsibility.”
The ad is currently airing on CNBC, CNN, Fox News Channel, Hallmark, Headline News, MSNBC, Weather Channel and locally throughout Washington, DC. It will run until the supercommittee deadline, November 23rd. Earlier this year the ad aired two additional times on Fox News Channel, NBC during Sunday talk shows, Bravo, Comedy Central, CNN, Headline News and MSNBC.

America could learn a lot… from a drug addict. Even though this country’s $15 trillion in debt – Washington raised the debt ceiling 11 times in the last 10 years. Each time – it’s like another hit – another spending hit. But you’re the junkies. 41 cents out of every dollar you spend is borrowed –from places like China. So China is like your dealer… And your addiction and your dealer control your life. To borrow less – you need to spend less. Yeah – Washington could learn a lot from a drug addict.
